Solitary pulmonary nodules may represent early lung cancer, which is potentially curable. The advent of improved imaging techniques, together with the worldwide implementation of screening programmes, has intensified the need for a structured approach to the management
of pulmonary nodules. We present an overview of the current literature on risk stratification, characteristics and management of pulmonary
nodules that are relevant to practitioners in South Africa.
